The WongAvery Music Gallery and the transformation of the court it sits in were made possible through a generous donation from the Avery-Tsui Foundation.
Master of Trinity Hall, Mary Hockaday said: “We are delighted to have this wonderful portrait of Sally and Natasha, and its inclusion of Dennis, to mark the long partnership with and generosity of the WongAvery family to Trinity Hall. It is a warm and dignified portrait which we will treasure. The way it connects with the unique WongAvery Music Gallery in the courtyard outside will be enjoyed by everyone who sees it.”
The artwork was unveiled in a ceremony earlier this month. Alastair Adams was there alongside Sally and Natasha. Adams, a member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, is a renowned portrait artist who has worked around the world.
Professor Alexander Marr, Professor of Renaissance and Early Modern Art, Fellow and Picture Steward at Trinity Hall, said: “We are delighted that the accomplished portraitist Alastair Adams, past President of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, has created such a fitting tribute to the generosity of the WongAvery family and their support for the construction of the remarkable Music Gallery by architect Niall McLaughlin in Avery Court.”
The WongAvery Music Gallery received a Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) East of England Prize in May for its “exceptional architectural ambitions” and is now in the running for a RIBA national prize.
