On Sunday 5 March the Master plans to walk to Chesterton and the Chisholm Trail cycle bridge, taking in some of the Fen Rivers Way and some of the history of the City of Cambridge and its relationship with the River Cam.

Mary will leave the Porters’ Lodge at noon and would be delighted if any students, Fellows or staff wish to join her (there is also a chance to join the walk at Magdalene Bridge/Quayside: those wishing to join here should be there from 12.10pm at the latest and wait near to the Prezzo on Quayside).

It will take around one hour to walk there and the same back at an easy pace. There’s a pub in Chesterton (The Green Dragon) and a few cafes close to the route of the walk for those interested in stopping for refreshments (or bring your own snack). A little rain won’t deter if you have a waterproof and decent boots/walking shoes. Mary can’t take responsibility for anyone but will show the way and be happy to see you and chat.

Highlights include:

  • The Cambridge Museum of Technology
  • Views of the Boathouses
  • Dinky Doors! There are at least two on the walk so watch out for them!
  • A glimpse of the Lent Bumps course (which start on 7 March, Row Hall!)
  • Fen Rivers Way signposts detailing the history of the area and the river.
