It is with great sadness that we note the news that Dr Christopher Padfield died peacefully in his sleep over the weekend.

Dr Padfield was an Engineer and a Fellow of the College from 1988-2016, during which time he served for 16 years as Graduate Tutor (1990-2006).  He had been an Emeritus Fellow since 2016.

Alongside his long association with Trinity Hall he had close links throughout Cambridge; as an undergraduate at Fitzwilliam College, followed by time at Darwin College where he earned his PhD.

A father of three, Dr Padfield spent many years working as a professional engineer in industry before taking the opportunity to return to Cambridge and take up a Fellowship at Trinity Hall.

Dr Padfield will be remembered by generations of Trinity Hall Engineers as an interviewer, supervisor, tutor and welcoming host of the annual summer “Croquet and Pimm’s” Engineers’ garden party that he nurtured to become an established tradition. He will be greatly missed and our condolences go to Nicola and the family.

If you would like to send condolences to the Padfield family, please email Heather Kilpatrick on masters-ea@trinhall.cam.ac.uk.
