The podcast aims to dispel myths about Cambridge University and provide students with the tools, knowledge and skills to best prepare their applications and transition to higher education at Cambridge. Recent episodes discuss common interview pitfalls, frequently asked questions about the admissions process, and stories from our current students about their personal journeys to Trinity Hall.
Led by the Trinity Hall Admissions team and hosted by Access and Outreach Communications Officer Siam Rahman, the podcast is a College initiative to help widen access to the University by providing easily accessible information for prospective students around the world.
Siam said: “We recognise the disparity in the level of support students receive with their Oxbridge applications. The idea behind Cambridge from the Inside was to make these resources accessible to everyone online – providing admissions advice directly from the Directors of Admissions, subject-specific insights from academics, and stories about life at Cambridge from as many current students as we could interview. This way, no matter which school you attend, you’ll have all the information you need about how to apply to Cambridge and what it’s like to study here.”
Cambridge from the Inside provides subject-specific information about courses that students may not have studied in-depth, such as Law or Human, Social and Political Science (HSPS), as well as points applicants to useful resources recommended by academics to help them expand upon their secondary school education.
The podcast is part of a wide-reaching series of programmes and initiatives across the University that are committed to widening participation to higher education. These include Trinity Hall’s free You’ll Fit In programme for students from groups under-represented at Cambridge, and STEM SMART (Subject Mastery and Attainment Raising Tuition), co-directed by Trinity Hall’s Senior Tutor Dr Michael Sutherland, that supports students in raising their attainment at school and develops their confidence to apply to study physical sciences and engineering at top universities.
In future episodes, the podcast will welcome current students to discuss different aspects of their lives in Cambridge and alumni to talk about the range of options available after graduation.
