Mary Hockaday, Master of Trinity Hall, said: “As a former journalist myself, I am thrilled that Trinity Hall is able to support the best of Cambridge student journalism, thanks to a generous donation from Jim Passamano.
“Cambridge student journalism is vibrant, and we hope this prize will encourage aspiring journalists to play their part in reporting the news, holding power to account, and getting behind the headlines with features, which help us better know ourselves. Good journalism shines the light that all citizens need.”
The Prize is open to both undergraduates and postgraduates studying any subject at the University of Cambridge. The judging panel is formed of eminent journalists, including Trinity Hall alumni, who are experienced in a range of media formats.
Jim Passamano, Trinity Hall Law alumnus, and Beth Sufian are supporting the Prize. Jim said:
“Beth and I are delighted to support a student journalism prize to develop skilled journalists and a well-informed public. Students who learn the indispensable role of critically thinking journalists will contribute much to the preservation of our free societies.”
Submissions for the 2024/5 Prize are open from 1 November to 13 December 2024.
