Trinity Hall and the University of Cambridge are pleased to announce that the 2024 Leslie Stephen Lecture will be given by Anne Enright, FRSL entitled ‘A New Light on Alice Munro’. The lecture will discuss revisiting a writer’s work when reverence is gone, and look at secrecy in both the early and late work of Alice Munro. 

The lecture, which will be given in the Senate-House at 5.30pm on Monday 14 October, is open to all who are interested. Refreshments will be served afterwards.

Please note that senior members of the University are asked to wear gowns (black gowns without hoods). A senior member is a Fellow of the College, or anyone who holds an M.A. or any other Cambridge Master’s degree or Doctorate.

Anne Enright

Anne Enright was born in Dublin, where she now lives and works. She has published three collections of stories, collected as Yesterday’s Weather, one book of non-fiction, Making Babies, and eight novels, including The Gathering, which was the Irish Novel of the Year and won the 2007 Man Booker Prize, The Forgotten Waltz, which was awarded the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction, and The Green Road, which won the Irish Novel of the year and the Kerry Group Irish Fiction Award. Her work has been nominated for the Women’s Prize five times. From 2015 to 2018 she was the inaugural Laureate for Irish Fiction. Her latest, The Wren, The Wren is the winner of the 2024 Writer’s Prize for Fiction.

The Senate-House, 1 St Mary’s Passage, Cambridge CB2 3PQ.

The entrances are marked by red arrows on the University map. There will be ushers on the door to point you in the right direction.
