More than £1,000 has been raised in the College in the past few days for Charities supporting those affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
On Sunday evening Trinity Hall Chapel choir performed Fauré’s Requiem in aid of the Red Cross in Ukraine.
The choir were joined by Reuben Thomas as solo baritone in the Trinity Hall Chapel during the performance.
Dr Stephen Plant, Dean and Runcie Fellow at the College, said: “This was a very special event, made more so by the poignant coincidence of singing a requiem during a time when there is war in Ukraine.”
Following the performance a retiring collection was taken for the Red Cross Ukraine appeal. To this we added the collection taken in the morning service and the total raised was £448.20.
“I hope all those involved will be glad that their hard work, diligently and cheerfully undertaken, was a gift not only to those attending, but to others too,” added Dr Plant.
Earlier this month the MCR (the group representing the College’s postgraduate students) raised more than £400 in aid of the Red Cross.
Chris Haggard, MCR President, said: “We have raised £478 so far which is well beyond what was expected.”
That total was “match-funded” to a different charity by the College, with the same amount going towards the Council of At-Risk Academics (CARA). For more on the University’s response to the war in Ukraine visit its dedicated webpages.
